Joel was one the kindest ,most helpful and so annoyingly cheerful person I had the privilege to meet and be friends with. About 6 of us use to go down to the Marksman almost every eve after a stressful day teaching at Daneford. Have half a pint and a salad. The salad was peanuts and crisps together. An Indian in Brick lane most Fridays. I am so glad I saw Joel for lunch and walk in 2019. Happy times always with Joel. Joel always had a smile for everyone

It doesn't surprise me to read that Joel was a long-standing supporter of Shelter: typical of the kind-hearted man to be thinking of the too many destitute people in this wealthy country. I also knew him through my being in the Choir with Anna; it was so good to talk to Joel after performances when he was always positive and had an infectious sense of humour and great laugh, which I shall totally miss.
