Geoffrey & Barbara 14th August 2023

Joel was a man of many parts, all of which he pursued with great intelligence and enthusiasm. He was deeply bound up with his family – proud of the achievements of those here and constantly appreciative of his family background in Canada. Having been trained in physics and taught the subject for many years, he was equally at home in the world of ideas, especially scientific ideas. He was a committed Jew and thought deeply about his relationship to the wider Jewish tradition and also had a lively social conscience. He was immensely practical – witness he regularly played tennis, enjoyed playing the violin and the structural work he did on the house. I particularly remember going into the garden where he had designed and erected a chicken coop. We shall miss his warmth, humanity and humour With our love Geoffrey & Barbara
